Hello, I'm Don Lashoni Cowley, but you can call me Ms. Donna or Ms. Cowley. With over 34 years of experience as a health professional, I bring a unique blend of Southern charm and Midwestern pragmatism to my practice. Born and raised in the South and then moving to the Midwest during my last year of high school, I like to think of myself as a Northern Belle with a big-city twist.

During our sessions, you can expect:

Your first visit will be a comprehensive session where we take the time to gather detailed intake information. We will discuss your medical history, current medications, and any other health concerns. I believe in a holistic approach, so we will also talk about your family life, work or school environment, and mental health.

Our team provides personal home visits for both adults and children, as well as visits to nursing homes and group homes. We also serve therapy centers and substance abuse facilities, ensuring individuals receive the care they need in a variety of settings. In addition to in-person office visits, we offer telemedicine services for added convenience and flexibility, allowing us to deliver compassionate, personalized care wherever it's needed.

our story.

I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse with ANCC. As a PMHNP-BC I am dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive mental health care to all my clients. With a strong background of over 32 years in nursing and specialized training in psychiatry, Ms. Don Lashoni Cowley offers expert care in quality care first, foremost along with diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health disorders. My love for humankind has placed me in a position to offer my services to people whom I believe can be the best they can be with my assistance.

Ms. Don Lashoni Cowley earned her two Associate Degrees from Excelsior University (Nursing) and Olive Harvey College (Pre-Med/ Biology). Her Bachelor of Health Professional Administration (BHA) from Governors State University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Walden University and then went on to complete her Master of science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus in Psychiatric Mental Health from Walden University. With extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings and obtaining clinical experience at Houston Behavioral Hospital in Houston, Texas, and Virtual Consult MD in Evansville, Indiana, just to name a few. She brings a patient- centered functional holistic approach to the psychiatric community.

She specializes in areas such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, schizophrenia disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, substance use disorders and more. Ms. Don Lashoni Cowley implements evidence-based practices along with therapeutic modalities incorporated in meeting the unique needs of each individual client. She is very committed to promoting mental health wellbeing through talk therapy/ medication management/ and diet and enjoys empowering clients though education, support services, and personalized treatment plans to produce an effective outcome for each client’s life.

In addition to her clinical practice, to get to know Ms. Don Lashoni Cowley, she actively engages in ongoing professional development and stays current with advancements in psychiatric care. She is member of Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses of Houston, Texas, a professional organization and regularly participates in conferences and workshops to grow her knowledge and skills in the ever changing world of mental health.

To know Ms. Don Lashoni Cowley personally, you will know she is very outspoken, makes her concepts known and voices her communication with clients truthfully, open and direct to build a productive- relationship that is for the good of all. She has two yorkies which are connected to her by the hip. She loves educating people and her family. She has one son and now she is a beautiful grandmother of a handsome baby boy. Her daughters are all, not just beautiful outside but are smart and supportive to the medical field. Her kids and family have been so supportive to her and have worked and educated themselves in the medical field to be an asset to following her footsteps in their careers.

Ms. Don Lashoni Cowley believes in the importance of building strong therapeutic relationships and works hard to collaborate with clients, families and other healthcare providers to achieve the optimal mental health outcomes. With a compassionate and empathetic approach, she strives to create an open, safe and supportive environment for all clients to seek and discover mental health care.

People with bipolar disorder experience intense swings in mood, energy levels, behavior, and ability to function. These swings typically last for days or weeks at a time and include periods of depression, mania, and/or hypomania.

Symptoms of mania: Feelings of elation or extreme irritability, a decreased need for sleep, euphoria or a feeling of invincibility, irrational thoughts, talkativeness or faster speech that seems out of character, poor decision making.

Symptoms of hypomania: Hypomania has milder symptoms than mania. People may feel very good and motivated to get things done.

Symptoms of depression: Feeling very down, sad, or anxious, lack of interest in activities, low energy or fatigue, changes in appetite, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, suicidal thoughts, or frequent thoughts of death.

Feeling upset and sad from time to time is expected. People with depression experience persistent feelings of sadness and a lack of interest in activities to the point where it interferes with their daily life.

Signs and symptoms:

Feeling very down, sad or anxious, lack of interest in activities, low energy or fatigue, changes in appetite, changes in sleep, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, suicidal thoughts, or frequent thoughts of death.

PMDD is a severe form of PMS (premenstrual syndrome) that causes extreme mood swings and other symptoms that can be disruptive to daily life. PMDD is not technically a ‘mood disorder’ but it can be treated with medications like antidepressants.

Signs and symptoms:

Mood swings, including depressive symptoms, irritability, increased sensitivity, anxiety, dysphoria, bloating, headache, and cramping about 1-2 weeks before menstruating, symptoms that significantly improve 1-3 days post-period.
